& Focus children
Our Curriculum
Curriculum - is simply what we would like the children to learn while they are with us at Puddleducks.
We do not believe in a one size fits all approach.
Every child is unique and therefore we believe the curriculum needs to be different for each child.
Therefore - The 'Child' is our curriculum.
We are always excited as to where the day will take us as it is always based on children's interests!!
Planning
At Puddleducks we plan in the moment and recognise next steps as something we support instinctively throughout the day.
Then retrospectively our practitioners record the quality teaching and learning that happened. We ensure that observations do not hinder our contact, interactions and play with children
Hundreds of next steps may be achieved within the course of a week or month. For us its important that our practitioners are present with children as supporters, facilitators and guides.
We allow children to lead their play, embracing their interests and facilitating the opportunities for them to build on their knowledge and skills that they already have.
Focus Children
We have a specific group of children to be a 'focus child' each week and complete relevant observations on them. All children get observed too but these children are a focal point and they are writen up on tapestry.
We work on a 6 week cycle of focus children.
We share with parents/carers 2 weeks before a child will be the focus to allow them to complete a form and discuss what significant is happening in their child’s life right now? What are their interests? Do they have any concerns? Etc. This then is read and understood before the child is focus. We combine parental/carer input with our own knowledge of the child in order to provide opportunities and experiences that are inline with the child's interests.
During the focus week, all staff will record observations on the child onto a focus sheet, these are then read and pulled together by one of your child's key people and written up on tapestry for parents/carers to read.
We encourage parents/carers to talk to their child about their focus week observation, discussing what they are doing in the photos and what is written.
2 Year Checks
Between your child's second and third birthday, we will write a summary of your child's development, we will write this alongside you and ask for your input.
You may find it useful to share the information with other professionals such as health visitors who can use it as part of the Health and Development review.
